Wigg & Son is the leading green envelope manufacturer of Australia. This hasn’t happened overnight – it has taken many years of developing sustainable practices that demonstrate our commitment to make a difference for the environment.
Environmental milestones we have achieved to date are:
ISO 14001: ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATION
Wiggs are the first envelope manufacturer to be accredited ISO 14001. This significant accreditation is a global environmental management system to assist an organisation to achieve its environmental goals. It guides planning, implementation and operation, checking and corrective action, and management review processes.
FSC & PEFC: 'CHAIN OF CUSTODY' CERTIFICATION
Wiggs are the first manufacturer to be certified both FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification scheme). These Chain of Custody certifications demonstrate that we support responsible forestry; that we've passed rigorous external audits to prove that our processes and procedures live up to the high standards set by these internationally-recognized associations.
REDUCE WASTE: ZERO WASTE TO LANDFILL STRATEGY
Wiggs has implemented a zero waste to landfill strategy. Starting with all paper and cardboard waste from our manufacturing processes being extracted and collected for recycling. An intensive recycling segregation program enables us to identify all waste for recycling.
REDUCE WATER: REDUCE CONSUMPTION BY 75%
Wigg s have made bold plans to reduce water usage by over 75%. Our efforts were awarded with a Climate Change Government Grant for the installation of new Dry Vacuum Pump system– saving more than 900,000 litres of water per annum.
Wiggs have made the transition to computer-to-plate technologies used for our entire plate making. We are also converting all printing away from using alcohol based printing inks.
PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS TO THE CUSTOMER
Wiggs success lies in its ability to develop innovative Environmental Solutions for the customer by developing innovative products and services with clear environmental objectives. We also want to make Green Envelope alternatives more available and affordable to the market. Some simple ideas include having all envelope cartons made from 100% recycled content – or getting customers to reduce packaging by switching to larger carton sizes.
